OK... I know the sound thing has been beat to death, but things are happening a little differently for me.

Hardware:
amdk2-233
tx MB, 64mb
Siig sound card (ensoniq chipset) drivers detected as creative 64pci

When I install the game and play, the sound will play twice. Is this the echo? When I enable 8bitmoviesound=1 in the .ini, everything works great.

When I install the 3.0 patch, no sound. Remove the 8bitmoviesound=1, I have good sound, until a "voice" comes on (new discovery, etc) then I get an illegal op in terran.exe in module sound.dll. Rename the dll, no sound.

Set d3snd (?) to 0 and I get desent sound, but no voices. Not sure what happens when I set both settings to 0 (eax or whatever).

I guess what I'm getting at is should I just play the non-patch ver and have good sound, or V3.0, and no voices (and who knows what else)? Or is there a fix for the issues?

Maybe I should ditch my $20 sound card. Hehheh...

Any recomendations?

Set both EAX and DS3D to 0. Let me know if with those settings you still don't have any voices.

First, Id like to say thanks for replying so quickly.

Anyway, I had a chance to play with the sound a bit and this is what I found.

When I disabled the two settings (eax and ds3d =0) I did get voices. The sounds are a little scratchy here and there but the game is playable. What orig threw me off was when I got the illegal op in terran.exe, and started the game right back up, I guess the sound.dll did not get reset or something. The game would act just like i renamed the sound.dll to sound.dl_.

Long story short, everything seems to be ok now. I'll see if I have any problems when I play for a stretch of time.

Thanks again.
