When designing a submarine carrier (I wanted a submarine with nuclear warheads), I discovered that as soon as I pressed on apply, the just-designed-unit had turned into a submarine. The carrier ability had disappeared. Moreover, I couldn't get rid of the design. Pressing the retire button had the effect that the computer asked if I really wanted to retire the AAA Shard Infantry. The first time I saw that I accidently chose YES, and then got a heart attack, because I had a lot of that kind of infantry. Luckily, it had no effect whatsoever.I noticed that underneath these phantom designs, it says NEW DESIGN BASED ON OLD UNIT. When I discovered this, I had 5 Nuclear Submarines of this unretirable kind. Makes you think... Please fix Firaxis!

i have also gotten the "AAA Shard Infantry" message when trying to retire a newly designed edsel. funny thing was, i had never designed a "AAA Shard Infantry". the edit would not repeat when i tried to recreate it. when that happens, if you close the workshop, and then reopen it, the edit will not happen. this is a way around this heartastroke bug (i clicked yes too before it registered that i was retireing and unit with a diff name. whew, glad i didn't have any), but it does need to be fixed |

Yes, I came across this exact problem, with 2.0. Haven't tried it again. Assumed that the two abilities couldn't be designed in the same unit. Can't really be done in reality anyway. I think i remember the Soviets refitting a sub once with a hangar for a small chopper, but evidently the design wasnt too successful as they didnt do that with all their subs. |

It can't be done for aircraft of course, but it can for missiles. Maybe they should differentiate for missiles and aircraft, but well, it's too late now. |

I concur, something is definately wrong with the way the Workshop works. I have given up designing my own units altogether and are just sticking to the computerproposed ones.Firaxis, you really need to give this part of the game a major overhaul with respect to interface-streamlining and bugfixes in a future patch. For the record, I'm playing the 2.0 UK version and have never had a crask or even a serious slowdown on my 200 MHz Pentium with 32 Mb. OmniDude Eagerky anticipating the UK 3.0 patch |

Yeah I had the same problem with the AAA Transport. It was unretireable with the 'New Design Based On Old' thing. Since then, Ive decided the autodesigner is complete bollocks and turned it off. No autodesigner - No problem. |

But I always turn off the auto-designer. After all, the autodesigner never comes up with Secure Hovertank Blink Formers and all those other essential designs :-)Man I hate it when they bribe my formers :-) |
