I have been getting a frequant crash while playing Alpha Centauri. I have tried using version 1.0, and upgraded to 3.0. The crash occurs in both versions, but more frequantly in 3.0.I'm running an AMD K6-233, with 64 megs of ram, a matrox millenium II-4 megs of ram, a diamond monster 3d II-8 megs of ram, and an AWE 64. All have current drivers, and I'm running with direct x 6.0 (tried 6.1 as well). This is the error I receive. TERRAN caused an invalid page fault in module TERRAN.EXE at 0217:00618e3c. Make sure you're not running out of virtual memory. Free up 200+ megs on the c: drive (or wherever you allocate your swapfile) and let windows manage it. If you're processor is overclocked, restore the original settings. If you were playing a save from v1.0 in a v3.0 game, the save itself may be the problem.jkm firaxis games |

I have 600 megs or so free on my hardrive, and I have it set to windows managing my swap file. It is a 3.0 only game. Oh, and I have seen suggestions in other messages to turn off hardware acceleration on my graphics cards... I have the matrox set to no acceleration, and the diamond 3d set to the minimum mhz (90). Still no luck. |

So it's pretty random? Again, ensure the processor isn't overclocked, and try a few of the readme.txt tweaks (like forceoldvoxelunit=1).jkm firaxis games |

No, my processor isn't overclocked. I'll try some of the tweaks in the readme.txt. Is there anything else at all I can do? Will new patches help? |
