Greetings y'all,
First, a big thanx to Firaxis for making a great (if somewhat crashprone) game.
Now to the business at hand: I installed the UK v2.0 patch and Shazam. It won't start.
The game checks for CD, shows Firaxis logo and freezes up before playing intro movie.
v1.0 used to work A OK, a few random crashes, but they were hours apart. Now, as I uninstalled-reinstalled v1.0 from CD the game freezes my computer every 12 turns or so. Any suggestions?
I've got a Cyrix 166, old standard video/audio cards with latest drivers (checked yesterday, no updates)

First off, make sure that EAX and DS3D are set to 0 in the alpha centauri.ini file. Next, rename the sound.dll to see if that helps. If so, we know it's a sound problem. Otherwise, it's video. Try directdraw=0, forcing your desktop to the game's resolution (800x600x8bit or 1024x768x8bit), and downloading dx 6.1 from www.microsoft.com/directx.
