I tried plaing on a 128*256 map. Now, this just caused the game to crash after a few turns. What should I do?

The larger the map the more memory and HD space you need. SMAC eats virtual memory like you wouldn't believe on anything larger than standard size. I have over 300 Mb left on mine and it eventually crashes after a night of playing. If you have less than 150 open, thats likely the problem; if not, try reading some other posts around here. I think either Brian or Jeff had some comments last week in another post.

Nope, that's not the problem (I have 600 Mb free).

1) Run scandisk.

2) If Windows is handling the swap file, then try setting it yourself to some absurd number (300 MB), restart, run scandisk. Play.

3) If Windows is not handling the swap file, then allow Windows to handle it.

Have you tried these three? It's almost certainly a virtual memory issue.
