This problem has me going nuts. Whenever I tried to download either the v2.0 or v3.0 patch, I received one of two error messages: "Unable to retrieve file. Language or Seccurity settings not compatible or unable to access the server," or "Invalid handle". What does that mean? I've never had any difficulties downloading a game patch before, or anything else for that matter. I have the US version of Alpha Centauri, I un-installed and re-installed the game 4 times, and I haven't changed any of the settings in the game files because I don't know how to do that. A friend of mine downloaded the v2.0 patch to a disk for me, but when I went to install it I received another error message 75% of the way through the update. It said, "Old file not found. Update not completed." What gives here?

I noticed you had problems with your upgrade. I also was running into problems. I have all current drivers, patches, revisions, etc. I even reinstalled and checked for viruses again. I found a solution, that might or might not be applicable to your situation:During the update it says old file not found. I didn't click okay, instead I looked to see where it stopped in the patch process. For me it was on a file name interface.pcx. I was thinking maybe this was cause I did not do a full install. I did the 136mb install (only sound via the custom install option). It turned out that the interface.pcx file had been renamed by something in the 2nd patch or even the third to interf~e.pcx. I simply renamed it to interface.pcx and tried the patch again, it worked smoothly. Let me know if this helped. Tim Not affiliated with Firaxis or EA Support, User suggestion only. |
