I noticed that after I researched level 4 reactors, the computer updated my designs for me. I had a design for a super clean former on a speeder chassis that suddenly cost twice as much as it did before the new reactors. I checked it out, and sure enough, the new reactor increased the cost. Here is a breakdown of the unit cost by reactor type: R1: 100 R2: 60 R3: 100 R4: 120It looks to me like the cost is a bit confused. I don't know why I would need an R4 reactor on a former other than to give it more hit points and to make it cheaper, but there seems to be a cost calculation issue here. If this is supposed to be this way, could someone explain why (especially the dip in cost at R2).

Did you have the same industry value every time? Or is it possible that your social engineering choices have affected the mineral costs between the reactors? |

okay, heres what i think.. The game documentation says that reactors make *complex* units cheaper, but conversely make simple units more expensive.. This may be what is causing your problems. So it is most likely too simple a unit to benefit greatly from 3 and higher reactors. |

I went into design and simply switched the reactors, noting the cost change as the reactors changed. I know for certain that the cost displayed for R2 and R4 were what it actually charged because my R2 formers built twice as fast as my R4 formers in the production menu. Try it yourself. Load a game and enable the editor, give yourself the techs and then design a unit. |

The larger reactors reduce the cost, but they also have a minimum cost for a unit, which is increased by adding special abilities. Thus the larger reactors make it cheaper to put on a bigger weapon or heavier armour, but don't make it cheaper to add specials. Also they can make simple things (such as a lightly armoured former) more expensive.James |
