I haven't had much trouble with the game crashing for the most part (haven't downloaded either patch - using only the game disk I bought). However, in the game I'm now playing, it keeps crashing for terran.exe problems. I've reloaded several times. Tried saving the game and avoiding whatever move I felt caused the crash, but all to no success. Any suggestions. I am running at the lower end of the computer scale (pentium 166, STB Lightspeed video card). But like I said, it's been fine til now...

Check the details in the GPF report and note what it reports, especially if it refers to SOUND.DLL.
Try opening your Alpha Centauri.ini file in Notepad and setting ds3d=0 and eax=0. If those lines aren't present in the [Alpha Centauri] block right at the top add them.
May or may not fix the problem, can't hurt, and has fixed similar problems for others.
