On SMAC's main webpage is an announcement that Gamespot is running Alpha Centauri week, and to go and visit them.
I went to:

Among other things, I found this on Gamespot:

I wonder if Brian knows about this. Is this the v3.0 patch or some other SMAC improvement? If it isn't v3.0, then is this enhancement sanctioned by Firaxis? I guess we'll all just have to wait and see until tomorrow...

Yes, Brian Reynolds is aware. Check out his comments in The Game forum under the "BRIAN REYNOLDS ON SMAC: A FORUM EXCLUSIVE (Mr. Reynolds, please have a look.)" thread. Although he choose to be a little vague in his response to this question.

Very cool. I like Brian's style.
I believe that Firaxis in general and Brian in particular should be commended for the effort they have put in to respond to SMAC issues. Brian has done so with insight, patience, and good humour. It is obvious (to me at least) that Brian really wants to make SMAC as good a game as it can be.
For those of you that find me overly critical of SMAC or of Firaxis at times, please remember my motivation, as well. I love the game, and am putting in all this (free) time because:
1. I also want this game to be the best it can be -- because its concepts and design make it so enjoyable to play.
2. Because Firaxis (Brian) listens. Thus, the time I put in has some real hope of producing a better product -- which we all then get to play.

Hey, someone post a reply to what is fixed. I'll be at work all day and won't find out til tonight..It's unfortunate I found this patch at noon, with 7 more hours of work left...Now the day will drag...Ugh..Someone tell me what got fixed!@ ..Thanks.. =]
