I have a crash which is reproducible and saved. This is the second time I have presented this opportunity; I have tried a different title with the hope that I will attract your attention this time.

There are at least two terrain squares which will cause the program to crash any time you click one of them. Both are high-alititude river squares with solar collectors, both are being remote mined for energy by Supply/1/2*2's, and they are diagonally adjacent.

I don't need any help getting it "unstuck"; if I don't click on the terrain square in question, the program doesn't crash. I can live with that.

I just need to know if you want the save file, so as to find the cause of this bug, and if so, where you would like me to send it.

I hope Brian picks this up. I've been concerned that there are more game-logic issues causing lock-ups than the "missile" one.

We should be very grateful to Firaxis for their Forum, their numerous personal responses, and the patches. On the other hand, Firaxis should be very grateful to gamers like this fellow, who are essentially providing QA services for free to Firaxis.

Firaxis:

The crash I reported still crashes in Version 3, although the save file obviously originated from Version 2. The save file may just be a corrupted legacy of the already-fixed bug, in which case I'm raising a false alarm, or the problem might still be in there, in which case you'll want to have a look at it. It's your call.

Harvey:

Thanks for the compliment, but you should realize I'm a software developer myself, so I sort of know what really drives a programmer crazy: vaguely-reported, unreproducible bugs.

The other problem, of course, is the same bug reported ad nauseum compounded by users for whom the phrase "We already know about it and we're working on it," sounds suspiciously like, "Now that I've got your money you can go to **** for all I care. Ha ha ha!" (In the users' defense sometimes they are coming from not paranoia but experience with less conscientious competitors ...)
