Yes, I know we're all bored with this subject, but I am yet another poor, lost soul meandering its way down these empty corridors (I have nothing else to do, the game won't work <g> ). I'm a little troubled by those who blame this problem on incompatible hardware, as I thought I had pretty basic stuff.

I have a pentium (as in intel) 133
32 megs ram
ati 3d xpression graphic card (the best selling graphic card in Canada in 1997)
2 1.6 gig western digital hardrives (both with over 500 megs free)
Soundblaster 16 8x Cdrom Edutainment Kit

I thought that was pretty standard stuff, but maybe I was mistaken. Anyway, the store won't take the game back because it was open and claim any claims of incompatibility have to be taken up with Firaxis since the games box says my system will work fine.

I've tried all the suggestions given in this forum, but to no avail. I can play half an hour on tiny maps before I get the terrain error. And even if the suggestions did work, I would have a hard time leaving my graphics acceleration off and other such weirdness when all other games (like sim city 3000) work fine.

Oh well.

I am trying to remain happy, but this is trying my good mood. Hope help comes eventually.

Hmm, still no replies, eh? Must be that you have to be an AMD K6 user around here to get any attention. Doesn't anyone love us Intel guys anymore?

Very disturbing <g>

Hi David,

Okay, to troubleshoot your problem there are a number of things to do:

* First, make sure you have the 2.0 patch.

* Second, follow all the instructions in the README.TXT as far as making sure you have lots of virtual memory, lots of free disk space on your C drive, and so forth (you really want 100MB free disk space or so, so windows will have enough virtual memory). From your symptoms, it really sounds more like a virtual memory issue for you. If you're a reasonably experienced Windows user, consider going into Control Panel/System and manually setting your virtual memory to 100MB or so.

* Close all other programs, including any icons on the lower right of your taskbar (your "systray").

* If all of THAT fails, let me know and we can work further. See also my other posts in the "Still Crashing TERRAN.EXE - need help" thread.
