Author Topic:   Problems installing patch 2.0

I've just bought and installed SMAC version 1.0xi (in english).
Afterwards I've tried to install the patch, but at about '83% finished', it
complaines that a file isn't looking like it should, so it doesn't want to
replace it. And it aborts.
If I force it to finish (using options), SMAC still say version 1.0xi (x being
that i don't really remember).
Can anybody help?

If you bought the European version of SMAC then you're out of luck for the moment. The version 2.0 patch only works with the US version. This is because the terran.exe file is different for US and European versions.
Apparently the 2.0 patch for Europe is not far away, but still no date though :-(

A friend of mine has also had this EXACT problem.
However, he has the AMERICAN version of the game bought right here in the good ol' US of A....
He can't get the v2.0 patch installation past 78% without the EXACT problem Asger described.
This really sucks because we can't play multiplayer because I have v2.0 and can't install a second v1.0 on my machine.
Please help.

If it's on terran.exe, try copying it off the CD from the \programs folder. If it STILL screws up, I'll bet you've got a virus. Two of these types of patch problems were caused by the CIH in particular and solved by McAfee.

Hey...I'm that friend Arnelos mentioned. I did as you said, Jeff...copied Terran.exe from the CD to my HD. However, the same problem occured. My virus scanner (McAfee)is not picking up anything...even when I scan the CD itself. This is very dissapointing, since I can't play with anyone (except for people unable to install the patch!). If anyone has -any- suggestions...please tell me.
