The UK version seems to have some problems running from a DVD drive. Is that taken care of in the patch? Regards, Anders F Eriksson |

Not if it's the copy protection. We're looking into the problem, but unless we make some new headway, the patch will instate the same copy protection. Send me specs on your HW. [email protected]. jkm firaxis games |

Maybe you should just bite the bullet, and make the US terran.exe available. There appears to be two versions around in the UK, one is about 1.5Mb, the other 3! Alex |

If I understand this correctly, Firaxis has little to do with this. They're bound by a contract with their European distributor. As far as I've been able to gather, the European distributor is easiest reached through [email protected]. So email EA in UK your complaints, and maybe they'll get some sense knocked into them. :-( -- |

Hmm... Just as in NFS3, which also is a game distributed by EA ... Hmm... Maybe the US version of the executable might work after all, just as with the US version. Won't hurt trying now, will it No really, You aren't the only one with DVD, and a LOT of new machines are ONLY sold with DVD. Drop the copy protection. Then people with MS-DOS mode drivers will also be able to use the game without having to roam the universe for a working driver. There is more trouble than what it is worth. Now, What about the ECO-WORKERS? LD |

How come the US version is twice the size of the UK version. What is in that extra 1.5 that we in the UK are not getting? Why the need for a separate UK and US version? I can live with the odd spelling differences as I'm sure nearly all Brits can. European versions are obviously different but I can see no reason for separate UK and US versions. Maybe someone with more details can let me know. TortyFoo |

The UK version is compressed in order to make it more difficult to remove the added copyprotection. Hence the 50% size reduction. Again: make sure you all complain to EA's UK division. I consider their action an atrocity against the faithful and loyal gamers who bought the game in Europe. (Next time I'll buy the US edition instead, unless something change that is) -- |

It seems that the uk version is a bit out of hand from the Firaxis team, so the European distributor is to blame... AGAIN! As always!!! Why is it that the european distributors of pc games consistently have to screw everything up time over time? I mention Take 2, Psygnosis, EA. I am sick and tired of being let down time after time with delayed patches for european versions, when they actually come, sometimes they are not even released - malfunctioning copy protections, missing documentation I want PBEM. I need PBEM. Is it possible to run uk-SMAC with an american executable, or is the uk version game more cleverly designed to prevent honest consumers from getting what they want? Should one also complain to the european distributor over this? -- MOCKBa |

YES! When the copy protection is more important than the game, something is seriously wrong! LD (Someone mentioned atrocity) |
