1. I've had the same sound problems that others below have mentioned... the sound repeats itself on almost all sound effects and especially on the voice... the voice effect is so bad I have had to turn it off. Interestingly, however, the opening movie sounds fine and the Special Project movies, although a bit choppy, sound basicly ok. I have attempted to set EAX=0 and 8bitmoviesound=1 and all the sound test in DXdiag works (in that I hear something)... I have never had a problem with other Win95 games.

2. Twice, I have attempted to "hurry" production of colony pods and had the computer deduct the energy amount from my energy bank, but the pod never was created. Instead, the base seemed to just start building something completely new without giving me the pod I purchased. [This happened twice in the same city, but "hurry" worked find in another city]

All in all, a great game... I just wish the sound worked!

1. What's your hardware?
2. Disable the governor.

Do you know what type of SB card? If it's a Live, we know the problem and have it fixed in our code. Look for the fix in v3.0. Otherwise, let me know.

I have exactly the same "stuttering sound" problem on two different SB16 ISA cards (on two different PII 450s). One is PNP, the other is not. I am using NT4 SP4 on both machines. I have tried the ini fixes - no change.

NT support for directsound is in MS's words "crude". Driver updates for SB16 PNP is a pain on nt. Did you run that pnp.inf thing off the CD?

The MWave in the Aptiva is a DSP chip, and not really a Sound Blaster card. It can emulate a SB, though...

Just to add a data point, I'm also having the "turn complete complete" problem with my laptop. It's running Win95C, with DirectX 6.1 and the latest driver from Acer. The sound chip is a Yamaha OPL3SAx (?).

I don't care about this as much because the sound is OK on my desktop machine, which is running Win98, DX 6.0, and a Sound Blaster 32 PnP. Occasionally, the sound will stutter when there is disk access, especially if the hard disk went to sleep and had to spin up again.

I have the same problem. It's not too terrible, not everyting repeats, but having to hear "Turn comp...Turn Complete" every few seconds can get quite annoying. I have Diamond's Monster Sound MX300 with their latest drivers.

In addition, the moment I make contact with another faction, my pieces start sliding vvverry slooowwwly. I have a 450Mhz machine with 64MB of RAM and plenty of HD space, so I don't think it's hardware. Also, I installed 2.0 patch.

Echoing everyone else here (and not here), the game is really great. Too bad I have a job -- it really cuts into my playing time -- but it allows me to afford it :-)

Mikey: Disable DS3D and EAX in the alpha centauri.ini by setting them to 0.
