The version 3.0 patch is due to be released this week --- I am eagerly awaiting the hordes of new bugs and crashes that it will generate...

As of last Sunday(2/21/99), I was assured from a certain gentleman here at Firaxis(name witheld by request), that the v3.0 patch was due out within the next 10 says. However, considering the number of times that the original release date was set back, nothing would surprise me.

I suspect that the Firaxis crew will want to fix as many of the outstanding problems as possible in 3.0, and therefore might take their time to do a thorough job.

There is no established date for the next patch. It will be released when we feel we've hit all the major issues that have cropped up since v2.0. Next few weeks sounds about right, but it could well be longer.

Having just experienced one of those frequent lock-ups in a well-advanced game I sure would like to see a patched version soon. (anywhere you want the saved game file mailed too?)

Is there a common work-around to them?

FYI -- SMAC is still a good game, but I feel like a right shmuck having already bought the game before all the kinks were worked out ...

What is the problem in converting the patch for european versions? At least I would think that the program itself is the same except for some strings which have been translated, and in UK ver even the strings shouldn't differ too much.

So what is the time consuming part?

Copy protection. We need to copy protect the v2.0 executable so that when we delta compare it with the one on the CD, it doesn't undo the copy protection. Since a third party provides that service, the feedback loop between finding a problem and getting it redone is longer than it should be. Once we nail it though, v3.0 for instance should be a much quicker process.

If you could just fix either the hot seat save bug or the terrain crash bug it would make the game much more playable for my wife and me. It is realy annoying to lose a few hours of game play.

To Firaxis (great job JM)

Take your time on the 3.0 patch and get it
all right. The game is fantastic and the
help on this forum is invaluable.

With tweaking the .ini file, downloading
DX 6.1, updating drivers and finally going
to 1024 x 768 (16bit high color, 256 renders
everything in black and white for me?!?)
SMAC is finally running fine.

I even found what I thought was a bug was
just another faction sending 17 needlejets
to bomb one of my bases. I wonder if others
have mistaken this for a lock?

SMAC is indeed a masterpiece, way to go

I let the game sit for 20 minutes before I killed it. Just how long did the game take to resolve those needlejets before it let you do something? I'm playing on a Celeron 300a system with 128 MB of RAM. I would love to be able to play a complete game, but it always locks up on me once I get to about where I start to launch Sky Hydroponic Labs.
