1) I cannot get the flexible starting positions choice in the pre-game settings to work. Checked or not, the game dumps me wherever it sees fit.

2) I upgraded all my scouts to Synth Sentinels and that fouled up my military stats. From one turn to another I went from being the second-weakest military power to be "the dude with whom noone wants to mess". At the screen where your military might is summed up based on unit stats, my 6 Synth sentinels add up to 6-255-6 and the same thinks that I have produced 255 SS's, but have 6 active.
Not a mjor problem but it does result in ths faction power graph being way off reality. I have yet to figure out if this has any bearing on diplomatic relations, but my guess is that my new status will be causing the AI's to **** their artificial pants unneccesarily.

I'm playing the UK version 1.0i and have had no problems with the game yet apart from the occasional stutter.

On Flexible, does it found a base or just give you a colony pod? Flexible should just not automatically found the base.

I've noticed too that sometimes the game thinks there are 255 units active.

Hmm..it seems to me that when you play with standard rules - flexible not checked - you start with a Colony Pod rather than a colony as well. But then the game reported here is my first with the full game, I haven't yet played with standard rules in the full game. I assumed that the full game was like the demo (first one) in this respect.
Anyway, I'll go home and check this out thoroughly.

As for the 255 appearing in the military strength stats, I can supply a savegame after, but not before. Interested?
I haven't yet had time to check if diplomacy is affected, but if it is the error is somewhat more grave than I first thought, since diplomacy is definately one of SMAC's stronger suits and a vital element to the gameplay.
