posted 02-22-99 09:33 AM ET I bought the game and did the full install. I didn't want to insert the CD each time I play. But the game always requests the CD (copy protection, I guess). Is there a way to play without CD? Otherwise I'll re-install and let the videos on CD.

It seems that non-US versions require the CD, regardless of the install type. We're looking into this..

really?... it seems that i can play it without the CD... but i installed the standard one... (the center one)... i live in Singapore, in Asia... it seems ok... just that i don't have the movie to watch...

I have the same problem with my german version. I would except a game like SMAC to work without CD even If you didn't choose full install. Like Civ II: That was really cool, a couple of Megabytes on the harddisk and no CD to insert every time you wanted to play.

For Civ II? Are you sure? I always got a dialog asking me whether i wanted to play the game without CD or wheter the game should look for the CD again.

yeah... mine also gave me an option to play without the CD... but without those movies and some other things... but it works fine...

I didn't need the CD for Civ II either, I just didn't get the animations without it in. (UK version)
