When I installed the v2.0 patch on my Aptiva it wiped out the sound in the game. I had to reinstall it to the original version to get it back.

here's what firaxis games recommend... :"Make sure that both EAX and DS3D in the alpha centauri.ini file are set to 0."

I have found setting the EAX = 0 and DS3D =
0 didn't solve the crash or sound problem
entirely. Going to the control panel audio and using the setting "Game compatible
devices" then removing the check mark from
the box that says "Game compatible devices"
(to restore the sound) seems to be working.

I still have the echoing effect and sound
bytes overlapping but the game hasn't crashed
since I changed the settings. Have played
about 50 turns since then, to 2410.

that depends... if just changing the settings to 0 works... then why do extra right?... unless he/she is having the same problem like game crashing then he/she should do what u did...
