I just get stuck after seeing the Fireaxis logo
I've got a 200Mhz MMX 64Mb loads of free
HD space a Matrox millennium and Diamond Monster Voodoo I plus SoundBlaster Live
Maybe I bought the game just to have to wait for the patches to come out?

I had the same problem, all you have to do is rename your sound.dll file. but as you might have guess, no sound. I still have no idea what kind of sound a planet buster do when you blow your oppenent. Hopefully, patch 3 will fix that??

Well, Simon as I mentioned and I tried it again renaming sound.dll doesn't change S...

I also have the same password after a number of hours play, the year is 2426 and the moment my turn ends and the computer starts moving the opponents. BLAM!!! I have the UK version, anyone know of any patches for that one yet??

Mine starts, but get GPF in terran.exe.
I've duped it, it happens at the same
place everytime I rerun the saved game.
I've tried all the suggestions here, no
joy.

I'm running a PII, 450, 256megs-100mhz
SDRAM, a full install, nVidia 2500 AGP,
latest "Detonator" drivers(did the same
with the older drivers), DX 6.1, 4X
CDROM. The game runs without any problems
on my (other computer) slow intel 200mmx.

...by the way. I've tried it with the
original install from the CD, and also
with the Beta patch....same problem
both ways.

zx81: If you're biting it after the firaxis logo, it's the movies that are the problem. Run dxdiag.exe and look for "!", any note section that doesn't say "No Problem", and run the tests. If worse comes to worse, do a typical install, and play without the CD.

doc: Is your processor overclocked? If not, check for free HD space (100-200+ megs free please) and ensure that windows controls the swap file size.

Simon_Pag: PB sounds SOOO cool. What's your soundcard? What's DXDiag.exe think of your drivers?

grahamt: Patch v2.0 is coming. Send in the save to [email protected] if you can repeat the fatal everytime.

Codger: DXDiag.exe. Look for problems.

Hi,
my AC does the same stupid fault like zx81 has.
I've done a full install and dxdiag doesn't show any troubles - even the tests are ok.
I'm using a CL 3D Blaster Banshee and CL SBLife Value with newest drivers and bios on a NOT overclocked AMD K6/2 333 with more than 1 GB HDD free and my swapfile is controlled by Windows98.
DirectX 6.1 also.
My version is the german one like my whole system is.
The fault doesn't come regulary - sometimes I can play 2 hours, sometimes just 5 minutes.

I have fixed my problem by not installing the sound files to the hardisk but keeping them on the CD. Wierd. I already have room for a 250 mb swap file and my processor is not overclocked.

Jeffrey,
Ran the DX diagnosis software, came through
with flying colors. Here is the Fault I get:

I've had the same page faults at terran.exe in every game I have played. They seem to be related to certain units being moved at certain times as I can get around the crash If I narrow down when it is happening, save right before that unit moves then have the unit take a different action. Eventually the page fault occurs where the game crashes no matter what I do. I currently have a save just before one of these instances and will forward.
The crashes have prevented me from playing through a whole game and are very frustrting after putting quite alot of time and effort in this game (the unavoidable page faults always happen late in the game- Murphy's Law).
I have a P2 300 very standard system and have tried all previous fixes with no luck. Riva

Tuffgib: Make sure you've got plenty of HD space and windows manages your swap file.

I have managed to get round the problem by completely uninstalling and then re-installing SMAC. I am beggining to get fed up of doing this every few hours and it is kind of ruining the game that I have been looking forward to for a long time!!!
