It's the second time I play a game where I'm the around 2300 years and the game, between turn, just stop working. When I check the CTRL+SHIFT+DEL menu, it's said that SMAC (not responding).
I already talk with J. Morrey for a similar problem with a previous save game(I even email him 2 time)
Does it happen to other people?
I'm finding that I pass more time in support forums then playing the game.
It's the only game that I had that much problem trying play.
I hope somebody found what's the problem.
J. Morrey did you have the time to check my earlier save game. The email was: re: SMAC not responding after a turn.
I wait for a reply.
I hope there's one......

Jeff I sent you an e-mail with a the same problem and you'll find another post on it around here somewhere. Unfortunately the answer is no to restarting from an earlier save. My game freezes consistently at the year 2309. This is even with a completely different set of events taking place. I did play a game with the hive through to the end, but I can't finish this game no matter how far back I go in loading previous saves.

I have a game that's crashing at year 2405. I thought it had crashed a year or two later originally, but I'm not positive.

The game locks up just as a Spartan (vendetta against me) air unit gets next to one of my cities.

I've hit this problem now, game crashes in 2382, i have a save file available if anyone needs to take a look. i have CyberMedia Crash Protector installed, it says that there is a Shared Access Violation error in terran.exe.

Reactivating the program or any of the other functions dont work, i've tried replaying from some earlier saves, no joy. V irritating as i've been on this game the last couple of days and was getting near the end

My machine is a Dell 300, 64mb ram, i did have this problem once earlier in this same game, but when i reloaded from a save it got past the crash point ok. This time it keeps going at the same point - after i click End of Turn, the UoP move a ship near one of my bases and bang, the game falls over.

I tried declaring war on UoP, and destroying the offending vessel, but when i did that it crashed anyway.

Mine is locking up in Year 2365. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not show SMAC as not responding though so I was thinking that maybe it would get going but it never did. It always locks up when it it the Believer's turn. The Believers surrendered to me and I have some units stationed in some of their cities. I'm at peace with one faction (Hive) and at war with another (Morgan). The others I've exterminated.

Game originally locked at 2332. Went to
Alpha Centauri.ini file and changed ds3d and
eax values to 0. Managed to play thru 2376 and am now seeing the enemy aircraft crash
problem.

PC is the dreaded Compac 4712 with the more
dreaded ES 1888 sound card. Have downloaded
DirectX 6 and certified drivers from Compaq.
On the positive side I feel as though I have
2 different games, SMAC (a superb game, when
it works) and the game of deciphering how to
make the damn thing work. HELP, have tried
everything listed in the forums and the EA
help included with the game.

Still, my compliments SM and BR for SMAC.

Just an addendum to my previous msg. I am
only able to go back to 1SAV. Is this because I am playing in "Ironman" mode?

Same problem here, around the year 2447 (I forget exactly). The game just stops for no apparent reason, and restarting from 2 or 5 years before has no effect on the crash date.

Many people say they were toward the end when the game crashed. The same is true in my case; I was about 3 techs short of achieving Transcendent Thought. Very frustrating.

Well it seem SMAC crash a lot.
I see I'm not the only one with the problem.
Firaxis will have to patch it...good
