Just bought SMAC to run on my brand new PC but it will not run. WHen starting up display goes back to desktop and task manager shows Terran not responding. Have been through all trouble shooting suggestions, re-installed DirectX run DirectX diagnostics and no problems found other DirectX games run OK. Anybody got any more ideas please?

Try setting directdraw=0 in the alpha centauri.ini file (add it if not present). Also, try renaming the sound.dll to sound.dl_. Run DXDiag.exe and look for "!". If so, pickup dx 6.1 from www.microsoft.com/directx. Also, try manually setting your desktop resolution to 800x600x256 colors or 1024x768x256 colors.
