I have an SB Live!, Alpha Centauri 2.0 and DirectX 6.1. Whenever I get an advance, and somebody reads a quote, the sound is all echo-y. It sounds as if someone has cranked up the reverb really high. I checked my Environmental Audio settings, and they're all set for no effects. Any advice?

Edit your Alpha Centauri.ini file and set EAX=0. That will kill the Environmental Audio in the game, which is what's causing your echoes [echoes (echo)].- Coyote

Right now you can't adjust the reverb, and it isn't drawn from the system settings. Dave (our sound guy) said you might be able to alt tab to the Audio HQ once the game is running, and that might work though.jkm firaxis games |

Damn it, I meant that I don't see an "EAX=___" line in that file -- is that OK?Also, do I need to restart the game? |

If you don't see it, add it. Won't hurt. Also, set DS3D=0. Both those will take effect next time you launch the game, no need to start from scratch.- Coyote

I also have this problem, on two different machines. Each is running at 450 with 128MB and has a SB16 (ISA). One SB16 is PNP, the other is an older SB16. Both are running NT4 SP4. I have tried the latest Creative drivers - no effect. Every single speech sample played by the game is stutters and skips. Brutal!! I will try reinstalling the game under Win95 tonight. |
