I get an error which states: "Unable to allocate draw buffer. Program terminated." Please help, since I'd rather not return the game.

At what point does that occur? We've fixed one of those in the base screen.

It has happened at the following times:
1. 8 turns into the game during scout movement.
2. Building of new base.
3. Planetfall.
4. Start-up of game
5. Receipt of first new technology.

That's a DX problem. Do you have any "!" in the driver readouts of DXDiag.exe (c:\program files\directx\setup)?

I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! This is what I did that made it happen.
1. SMAC was fine. Then I...
Uninstalled:
SimCity 3000
Caesar 3
Lords of Magic: Special Edition
Star Trek Starship Creator
Deleted the directory (no UnInstall)
WarCraft 2
And that's it. It suddenly stopped working. When I try to load or start a Huge Planet with Lal, I don't even get to take one turn. However, using a random (no customization) game with Miriam, I can play for a couple of turns (10-15) until it pops up a window saying, "Unable to allocate draw buffer. Terminating program." with an OK button. Then another window pops up, saying,
"Terran
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be closed" or something to that effect. Then, my mouse freezes in the middle of the screen. (The actual middle, the very centre.)
Thinking it was somehow related to one of the UnInstalls I did, I re-installed SimCity 3000. No, it only gives me the draw buffer pop-up, and the mouse doesn't freeze. Go figure!
