1st the facts: I installed the complete install, and the game ran fine. I downloaded the "enhancement," installed it, and played one game and saved that game, once more, no problems. When I had time to finish that game, the game wouldn't start. I got the Firaxis logo and the windows hourglass, but I didn't get the Retry/OK button (for not having the cd in the drive), but then everything froze. I have the latest Diamond FireGL drivers and DirectX 6.1. I've heard that some people have had trouble with the movies, but I have had no trouble at all until now. Any suggestions?

You can try deleteing the movies folder from the installation directory, but that's probably extreme. First try setting the 8BitMovieSound=1 in the alpha centauri.ini file. Next, maybe add directdraw=0. It might be worth setting the desktop resolution manually to 1024x768x256 color (8bit). Maybe, reinstallation.
