I'm running SMAC in Windows NT 4.0 SP4, and I keep getting this sound 'doubling' effect when ever any type of sound is generated by SMAC. Is there any way around this?

Try v2.0. Also, make sure you're using the most recent sound drivers available for NT and your hardware. Often installing NT drivers are much more complicated that say Win95/98, so make sure if you did update them, that it worked. If you strike out, what portion of the game is it stuttering in? Movies, music, voices, all of the above?
