Topic: Is something wrong with my .ini file?

I read through these postings and see suggestions to tweak things in the Alpha Centauri.ini file. I can find that file but it does not contain the parameters that are mentioned. For example, forcing the video from to 1024 x 768 - one post I read was told to change a line in the .ini file from 800 to 1024. There is no such line in my file. Similarly, a question on sound asked me to check that whether EAX and/or DS3D was enabled in the file. No, there's no such line(s) there either. What's going on? Are these optional lines for insertion? Should they be there to begin with?

The Video Mode=1024 statement may be added. I don't know about the others but I think they relate to the 2.0 patchRon |

Many of those options default to a setting if not present, so it's no biggie if you don't see them.jkm firaxis games |

Well, if your desktop is at 1024x768 already, it shouldn't make any difference. What's the problem you're having?jkm firaxis games |

the problem is not so much with resolution as with the movies, which play with black and green lines runnning through them,, and stutter.I know that one possible fix is to set directdraw=0, and thus did so but did not seem to see any result. I tried using the resolution command in order to test whether the .ini file was being picked up by my system (desktop set to 1024, res in .ini to 800 - and vice versa). The resolution command in the .ini file seemed to have no effect. I am using the Australasian version of SMAC (in New Zealand) - if that makes any difference. Thanks Paul |

Shouldn't. Do you have an ATI graphics card? if so, download the latest drivers from their website. Also, look for "!" in DXDiag.exe and run their DirectDraw tests. jkm firaxis games |
