Topic: Multiplayer locks up at "Upkeep-Preliminary"

I was playing a TCP/IP game. My opponent was playing on a laptop, and I was on a full size computer. After a few turns in the first game, SMAC never left the Upkeep 0 phase: Preliminary. We restarted SMAC and started a new game. SMAC got stuck again after only the first turn. We could still chat, but the game never left the preliminary upkeep phase, even after waiting for 10 minutes or so.Also, how do you reload a saved multiplayer game?

Try the latest patch which should be up shortly. Depending on how you're playing the MP game, the save is loaded in the setup screen (under map type I think, one of those setup pulldowns). Some have a "load MP save" when you're selecting the game. You NEVER load it from the main startup menu, though.jkm firaxis games |

I had a similar problem. We (Me & a few friends) think we've traced it. It appears to occur when someone sends a message right before/during the begining of the upkeep phase. The problem doesn't occur when we're not sending messages, no matter how hard we try... |

Well, it could be that message sending is the problem, but it occured twice on two consecutive games, so it is unlikely that we coincidentally sent messages just before the upkeep phase both times. But I'll try again, thanks. My best guess now is that it was that the host computer, although it had a complete install, didn't have the CD in it, and that caused the lock up.

My friends and I are having a similar problem, lockups in multiplayer. But we have the CD in all computers, and have full installs, and no chats between players going on, we are playing IPX all in same room. |

We have also seen this fault on the tcp-ip direct play on the Oz version (Australian). Both machine running win 98 dx 6. |
