posted 02-11-99 02:22 PM ET What exactly does the laptop install do? I know it only copies over a handful of select files, but the ReadMe.Txt also suggests that "it also alters the default game preferences to improve over performance."(yes, the word 'all' is missing in the readme.txt). My laptop has plenty of drive space so I don't mind doing the max' install, but if there are some other things that would make the game run better I'd like to know the details.

I've found that "labtop install" means that all movies are disabled. If I am wrong please let me know, because I sure as hell dont see them!

I did the laptop install on my ThinkPad and it was annoying. A lot of CD reads (almost continuously). I reinstalled using the MAX option and the read and sound probs disappeared. The optimizations Firaxis talks about are kind of a joke, they just preset certain options which are availiable through the regular menus anyways (like quick unit movement-- that sort of thing). Do yourself a favour and do a FULL install if you have the space -- its worth it. (by the way you can enable the movies in the Preferences menu, they are by default off in any config I believe.)
