My CDROM freaks out when I try to read anything from the SMAC CD. It takes 3 min and many ugly noises just to open My Computer with the SMAC disk in the drive. Trying to install _really_ freaks it out and ends up with a "Can't Read From Source File" message.
Just so you know I have installed and played many games _other_ than SMAC (recently), such as Myth2 and BG. In fact I tested the Myth 2 CD just now and it works perfectly. The SMAC CD is brand spanking new and clean and has never been outside of either its case or my CDROM. What gives? I mean I've been waiting for this game so damn long and now this? Is there a tech support number I can call?

Sounds defective. Exchange it if you can. The tech support number is in the install guide.
