I thought SMAC would run on 95, 98, or NT. But now that I've bought it, the manual says no NT. Yet the demo ran on NT. What's the story?

Have you tried it? Because of the way that NT emulates sound drivers, certain HW combinations can cause sound problems. The demo readme discussed this, so if you didn't have problems with the demo, you're probably fine. The offical SKU label (on the bottom of the box) nevertheless states only 95/98.

Thanks! No, I haven't tried it out yet. I had no trouble with the demo, but I never had the sound turned on. So does this mean that as long as someone doesn't care about sound that SMAC runs on NT with no problems?

(BTW, the web site and the installation guide also say just 95/98.)

I have a problem with NT server ... it won't get past the first movie, although I can play the movies with the exe provided with the .wve files.

I reinstalled SP3, but there were a number of files more recent that SP3's so I didn't overwrite them.

Any hints?

James
PS. I have win95 on another machine so I'm not totally deprived and ravenning (sp?) ... yet.

well I've reinstalled SP3, Internet Explorer (problems caused by reinstall of SP3) and SMAC and still no joy ... except ... rename *.wve to *.wve.old ... in we go and off to play sans videos. Reinstalled with game only (no speakers so no point in sound) and it plays fine.

You can also do a typical install, which copies everything except the movies to the HD, and then play (solo) without the CD.

Is there any way to fix this problem, like new drivers or something?

When I try to run on NT SP3, I get a quick look at the Firaxis splash screen and then just black screen. If anybody has found a way around this I'd love to hear about it.
