Whenever I go into the game my sound stutters and echos. I have tried finding new drivers and found none. I have tried tinkering with DirectX. Is there anything to help me get rid of my problem. My specs are: P150 48RAM ACER

If it does the sam ething in other games, then th eonly thing you can do, is get a new, if it is very old, DirectX does propably not cope very well with it. If it is brand new. Well get it exchanged, for then it must be a hardware error. |

On slower machines such as yours stuttering is rampant, along with crashing, and general frustration. If you're not at least 200 MHz you've got problems. That's too bad; it's a great game.I think Firaxis advertised 200 MHz as a minimum system requirement. If so it would be the first time in history such a figure was accurate ... |

Do you use NT 4? I have this stuttering also when playing under NT4, the readme warned me about that, but I can't get the game running under win98. It crashes always after the movies (when the screen should switch to the start menu of the game).Any idea folks? |

I had quite the same problem, it doesnt have to do with the cpu (i got a 266pII) It was an old sound card (Shuttle Mad 16 opti82C929 chipset) whitch propably didnt go well with DirectX6, what i did was bye a SB awe64, and the problem got solved... but u cant really call this a solution can u? |

I also had the stuttering problem, but only after installing the 2.0 patch. In reading what's new in the patch I saw that DirectHardware 3D positional sound and EAX support was added. With my particular sound card, Diamond MX300, I don't think the latest drivers are DirectX6 certified (don't know if this will be the case for everyone else). I was able to completely eliminate the stuttering by disabling DirectSound3D in the alpha centauri.ini by entering ds3d=0. Problem gone! The readme for the patch also mentions disabling EAX support with eax=0 though I didn't find this to be causing any problems enabled. Good luck! |
