I also experienced the terran.exe-crash several times, especially when attacking a certain colony. But there's a failure which occurs much more often: The game simply disappears after some turns (sometimes after the 2nd, sometimes after the 100th or so). Then windows only uses 16 colors and terran.exe, which is still active in the task list, can't be reactivated. When I want to close it the whole system crashes.
I hope this is a simple problem with drivers or so. Here's my hardware configuration:
AMD K6 233
64 MB RAM
Matrox Millennium I (4 MB)
(Diamond Monster)
Soundblaster 16
Logitech cordless mouse (hmm)
150 MB swapfile on H where also the game is installed

I had that happen once on my 166 with a partial install, so I just reinstalled it as a complete install, and keep the CD in there. My best guess would be a driver conflict or an obsolete driver. From what I've been reading, you need drivers that were put online just yesterday to get it to work near 100%.
