Does anyone know how (if it is even possible) to play SMAC in a window enviornment (similar to Civ II)? I have searched high and low and read all the documentation, but have yet to find anything about it. I am hoping that it is not because it is not possible. thanks in advance for your help. :^)

Not possible, according to Firaxis this is due to Directx.
You should be able to run on 2 monitors, I think.
Both 'beatures' courtesy of MS...
It does get a little clumsy, playing on your laptop with a 21" monitor and a power generator on your back
