I am writing (o.k. complaining) about repeatedly losing battles I should have easily won. Time and time again, I lose battles against the AI on difficulties at Talent and above in which I should have utterly destroyed my opponent. An instance of this occured about 5 minutes before I wrote this. I was defending in a base with an ECM Plasma Sentinel of strength 10 and power 7.8. I was being attacked by a Believing unit that have a strenght of 7.06 and power 4. I should have easily won this battle, and yet I lost. I would not be complaining (or whining) about this if it only occurred once. But...I repeatedly lose these type of battles, and it gets really frustrating when I cannot hang onto my bases because my units cannot win battles heavily in their favor.

Is there some sort of reduction (on the human player's power) or bonus (for the AI) in battles when playing at higher levels?

Well, there is more to battle resolution than just power and strength. Believers get a 25% bonus when attacking for instance, infantry get a 25% bonus when attacking bases, etc. Maybe it is something to do with this?

I dunno, but you need more facts than just power and strength...

The bonuses assigned for whatever reason are already figured into the power as I listed them. So, I don't think that's it.

Can you list out the full unit parameters
(att-def-mov, exp level, damage level) and the terrain(bunker/base/sensor/altitude)?

All of my games have ended long before I've
gotten far enough up the tech tree to see a
defensive strength of 10.

Just for fun you might consider checking the box that will display your combat odds. It's the confirm attacks checkbox? I found doing that and reading the manual on how combat was actually resolved to be a big help in determining what was going on.

Kind of funny to see odds of 2546 to 1556. Reminded me of the pentium floating point bug. (I wanted accuracy, but....) Still wish I could read all the combat display.
