I have SMAC installed on a Pentium II 450 system, and have no performance-problems whatsoever. I also installed it on a Compaq Pentium 150 MMX laptop and even with the special laptop installation, i have serious performance-trouble. I takes more than a minute to start the game up, the units move very slowly and the sounds hang frequently. What can i do to get a reasonable performance on my laptop?

I have the same problem and I'm using a P2-266 with 128megs ram. Even with the patch, the game slows to a crawl half the times. Is there anything I can do? |

Apart from the suggestions in the readme.txt in the SMAC folder, I found that if I play on a large or huge planet the speed was attrocious. You could try a game on a smaller planet than what you normally use and see if it improves the speed.... |

Hi all, I have a P90 ( 48Megs memory with a SB 16 ) as a second machine, here at work. On that, I have the demo of SMAC. Now, at home I have a P200 ( 64Megs - AWE64 ) on which I have SMAC, UK version - patchless! :-( Both versions run just fine - I was pleased with the performance on the P90, and have played several 100 turn games to practice my start ( bit of a DamonHill fan! ). Now, excuse me for being a little forward here, but I have to say I'm pleased with the SMAC performance, more so when the patch reaches this side of the pond. It's nice to see software that's just released that can still run on machine where 95% of most new releases fail. thanks, Neil
