This may or may not be a feature/bug, I always hate it when they fix that "feature" that makes things easier..er..everytime I design a unit, the next turn I get a popup saying we've developed new technology allowing us to build better units and lo and behold it will be the unit I just designed the turn before. This happens evertime I develop my own unit.

One of the preferences (in advanced I think) is to turn off the auto-design of units. This should fix your problem.
