Back during WWII the British "Fighter Command", counterpart to America's NORAD, had a real problem -- the Germans kept bombing them. But the exhausted fighter crews and their battered Spitfires and Hurricanes got a break when Hitler decided to bomb cities instead of fighter command, in retaliation for what would otherwise have been a nuisance raid the British made on Berlin. Given the choice of which bases could scramble and which could stand down for maintenance, Fighter Command's effectiveness rocketed. How does this relate to SMAC? My "Air Defense" units keep throwing themselves into battle, even when they are damaged up to 90%. I need that fighter more than I need a former or supply crawler! I need a way to tell my fighters to stand down for repairs! Also, my fighters are going up against enemy bombers' "weapon" rating, NOT their "armor" rating. This significantly reduces the effectiveness of fighters. Shouldn't a fighter attack with its "weapon" and bombers defend with their "armor"?

Hmm, well, the documentation says that air-to-air combat uses the weapon rating on both combatants, regardless of whether one of them is a bomber. Oops. There is another problem, though -- when my air defense responds to incoming bombers, I don't get my 100% bonus, which the documentation said "air superiority fighters" are supposed to get. I haven't tested for the "air superiority" 100% bonus against bombers that have completed their sorties & are waiting for their next turn to return to base. It seems to me a fighter vs. a bomber should get the bonus whether it is scrambling an intercept or simply attacking as part of its turn. |

Air superiority doesn't give you +100%, AAA tracking does. |

"... Air Superiority units gain a +100% combat advantage when attacking other air units in flight ..."Quoted directly from the help. I presume that 2 "Air Superiority" units would both get 100%, and that therefore the 100% really only comes into play when Fighters attack Bombers -- whether scrambling to intercept bombers on their way in or attacking them during your turn as they wait to return home. |

I have figured out the details of the "Air Superiority" bug, and will create a new topic outlining the problems. |
