First time I played SMAC I had 2.0 on, and I missed the music that accompany the forming and finishing of a base and/or technology. After a few frustrated games with no music but sound effects I was going to put his back to the shelves. The music suddenly poops up at what I thought at the time was my "last game". So I decided to give SMAC another chance. One day I deleted SMAC to make space for an RPG I got from the Internet. After reinstalling SMAC and played it without the 2.0 patch, the music was normal. Unfortunately after I re-upgrade to 2.0 the music disappeared, again. Is there a way to choose the music? This is very frustrating since I bought SMAC in part of the great accompanying music. I hope I will get some help from Firaxis on this issue, it's very important to the gameplay.again. Is there a way to choose the music? I know that I can speak for many a frustrated forum participant, but please explain to this dolt( That would be me ) how you get a spell-checker to work in here?

Thanks

Have you been trying different factions?? Each faction has a "theme music" associated with it. When I first played, I too was disappointed that the cool music from the demo wasn't there. I finally figured out that music from the demo only accompanies the Morganites and the Hive (maybe others?). Also, until you build another base after Planetfall, the music will be very subdued.

I've been having a similiar problem, only in my case, it's all of the music. It's not that the music doesn't play, it's that it is choppy. It only happened when I installed the patch, so I uninstalled and reinstalled to get back to the original version. I didn't bother playing long enough to see if there were any other bugs (yes, the sound was THAT annoying).

Yes Trav, thats it! Its exactly that problem I had, but the thing is that I played the Hive couple of times and it still don't work!
When I build a base, several bases in fact, I still didn't hear any music. Firaxis should read this, and prehaps find a solution for it.

This is exactly what happened to me. I posted the problem in the support forum and Mr. Morris told me, the music would be keyed to the interface - which is right, but I think not the explanation for this problem. I'm sure the vanishing of the music is some kind of bug.

Indeed, patch 2.0 seems to mute the sound...

So when is patch 3.0 coming out? Is this going to be one of they bugs that Firaxis will fix?

I'm not sure about music ( I don't hear much music at all , I don't think) but the sounds effects and voice are a mess *after* installing the new patch. I have p2-450 with MX300 sound card. All sounds/voices are choppy now. Any news, I'd appreciate and email to [email protected]. I don't get by all these forums as often as I'd like, playing a dozen games at the same time :-)

Hey Goose and Fawst!!! I have the same problem I have a P450 and MX300 and the game sound is fine WITHOUT the patch installed. When I install the patch, I get kind of garbled in game music and sound effects. I read in the readme file that you may have to disable EAX and D3DS or something in the configure file but I don't know please advise!!!!!!!!!!!!!
