I was desperate for HOMM3, and Alpha Centauuri was sat there on the shelf beckoning...I surreptitiously bought it (35 UK Pounds over my allowed leisure spending limit, even though I make all the money...)after purposly loosing the wife and kids in a clothing store.....Hid it in my jacket, got home, installed it, ("Its just a demo, sweetheart") and it crashed on around the 5th turn. Then on the 2nd, 7th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 5th, 12th, 20th, 13th, 10th, etc...I once even made it to the 30th turn. Newsgroups, patches, disabling things, removing programs, DX6etc..Why? I really enjoyed Civ I, and was actually really looking forward to playing a space conquest game, esp as during the week I was very busy, and did not have the time do do anything on my home computer, but actually read the whole manual during the week, which I enjoyed, the technical specs were very interesting due to my backgroud in Physics and Astronomy. This weekend, although extremely hungover, I put in a good 14 hours trying to get the thing to work. My rate is 35 Pounds an hour for technical computer contracts, double on weekends. I finally made my way to this forum during my normal working hours, and it seems as if everything has already been discussed, yet nothing solved. I mean, Daggerfall was a complete nightmare, sometimes you had to reboot your computer every hour, but this is unbelievable. 5 minutes of game play? I just want to return it to the store, and get my money back. I am sad, because even during the brief 5 minutes it was looking interesting and addictive....I will reserve final judgement untill tomorrow, as there is one more thing I have picked up today that I can try. If so, then a retraction will be in order...OK, I couldnt post this yesterday as my account had not been set up, here is what happened. I Downloaded the terran.exe off the Net (Search for terran.exe and overwrite existing file) I presume this is illegal as I am in the UK. What a catch 22...Buy something legally that doesnt work, and you need to illegally download a program just to play it...anyways, take the CDROM out of the drive and sequentially added all possible devices under the sun, completely stable. 7 Background TSR's, inc Virus checkers, sound enabled, a couple word docs open, hi res figures, 1024, you name it, fine. Put the CD back in and crash crash crash craash crash. Well, I will be keeping it and was late in to work this morning after finally trying the last option. Thank you for Hotseat (That will be coming with the UK Patch soon?) I have two children that are old enough to play,it will be great fun. Thanks for listening....
