Howdy.

You are able to have infinite movements with drop troops. I began the turn with a drop unit in a city. You may be able to do this some other way.

Normally you can hit "I" to drop the unit up to 8 squares away if the unit is in a city(which, btw, can not be dropped on sea bases). The other option is to pick a location and RIGHT-CLICK to get the popup menu and select "Airdrop to here". The unit will airdrop and take some damage. You can repeat this RIGHT-CLICK/Airdrop combination for forever. The unit will eventually get to 95% damaged, but never less.

If you hit "I", the computer will report that you must begin an airdrop in a city. This is what made me suspect that what I was seeing with the RIGHT-CLICK menu was a bug.

It doesn't matter if you hit "I" while you are hopping around. Just press OK and continue RIGHT-CLICK/Airdrop. This is really effective for scouting out an area that you will be assaulting.

I like to call it stick hopping.

Cheers,
stick

Never less? You mean that I didn't have to let my drop troop rest in Morgan territory for umpteen turns? I could have kept dropping without fear further damage?

According to the manual says that all of what StickFigure has mentioned are bugs. You should have to start a Drop in a City. Secondly you shouldn't be able to land in an enemy city (though that better be a misprint, as an undefended enemy city _deserves_ to be dropped into). Thirdly once you land you shouldn't be able to drop again that turn.

Evidently not every bug in SMAC is inherited from <that other game>.

I wish we could drop into (undefended) sea bases. After all they're not ocean, they're solid surfaces above the surface, just as much as any island. Oh, hold on, maybe their Pressure Domes seal them in from paratroops. OK, I take this suggestion back: it now makes sense that we will need marines. (Or ships - hmm, how does a ship enter a pressure dome?)

Stick hopping? Why `stick'?
