I've had a problem in the last couple of games. The Workshop refuses to obsolete/retire one particular unit. (AAA Destroyer Transport) The 'Build' Governers also have a bad habit of wanting to build this particularly useless unit (I have no desire to ship troops overseas) even when it has something better (network node? bio lab?) to build.I can understand not being able to blow away the 'lowest level' of units (1-1-1 scout, former) but not a 'higher-level' unit like this. I've also noticed that creating an upgrade to an existing unit doesn't always allow you to upgrade the existing units! Am I doing something wrong? (call up unit. make changes. Hit 'apply'. Yes? The manual is pretty skimpy on this point, and I'm tired of getting told I have no superior units to upgrade that synth garrison to...) AdvTHANKSance

Its may not obvious, you really can't upgrade units by editing them that way. Its hard to explain but it won't work the way you might expect because that would disconnect that unit slot from any existing units and it is going to require you to pay for upgrades to replace existing units with improved ones. Example: the game sees adding Police to Synthmetal Garrison as a new unit and not an old unit with a new ability. And that's the secret to doing what you want. The best way I know to do this is to select an empty slot and build a new unit just like the old one but with the added capability. Then select the slot with the unit you want to improve and use the 'upgrade' button. Pick what you just designed as what want it to upgrade to (watch out for prototype costs) and that will upgrade the unit and make the old slot empty. The effect is what you want but it forces you to go through the upgrade process using the path the game understands and allows. |

OK, that solves that problem--thanks!However, the bug of NOT clearing the old unit still remains...I don't WANT any AAA Fusion Destroyer Transports...and what's with the 'Build' Governor wanting to construct offensive units?

Yes, I too have the "ineffable AAA Destroyer Transport" problem, where this unit appears in the Workshop and won't go away. In my case, I tend not to use Governors (especially because of the Space Elevator problem), but once I can build a Sub Transport, surface ones are totally obsolete.Though not in the same league as the Space Elevator problem or even the Ever-Circling Autoformer problem, and not as obviously pernicious as the Auto-design Clean Missile problem, this one is pretty annoying. Like the Clean Missiles, it shows up in every game I play with Auto-Design turned on.
