Like many others, I've also experienced plenty of the dreaded Terran.exe (program has performed an illegal function)crashes. I've tried many of the suggested fixes and so far I've found that most crashes can be worked around if you go back far enough into your autosaves.

BUT!!

1) When a Isle of the Deep attacks a size 1 unprotected city, on a huge map only, the game seems to predictably crash. Solution, go back, protect the city by "Hurrying" a defensive unit, no crash happens.

2) When a needlejet attacks an ordinary former building a mag tube, again only on a huge map, the game predictably crashes. Again, back to the autosaves and work around it.

Incidentally Jeff, Windows DOES manage my swapfile and I have over 1Gb of free space on the drive. My point is this Jeff. I work as a Quality Manager on software development projects. If the crashes come as thick and fast (and it seems predictably so) as suggested by the experiences of the people posting here (which is likely to be only the tip of an iceberg) your game has a SIGNIFICANT problem in terms of quality. Either it wasn't play-tested sufficiently or it was released with complete knowledge that it was prone to failure.

Personally I like the game, but it seems that unless you play an small or medium maps only you will have to persevere in the face of problems to complete the game. ANY game is meant to be fun. The evidence posted here suggests that plenty of people are having the game spoiled for them by the way it behaves.

Remember Jeff (and Firaxis), The game crashes because of the situation a user strategically managed their faction and its forces into. To have to go back and manage your way into a slightly different position on any kind of regular basis

just isn't good enough!

If you're confident that it's a game problem, send the save to [email protected] and we'll fix the problem. If it's a system problem, I'll return you a save of the following turn.
