Author Topic:   SMAC v2 Patch problems

I recently downloaded the SMAC v2 Patch, and when I try to apply it, it errors out with this message: "Old file not found, however a file with the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."
I am guessing that it doesn't like the .exe, but it doesn't even get past the first file (the progress indicator is still on the first file, alpha.txt). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have a way to force it to update the files?

Make sure you're using the right patch and that you haven't modified the text files. Reinstall if you think you might have.

Thanks for the tip. I tried reinstalling it, but had no luck with that. But, I did eventually get it working... the copy I was trying was my friends (he lent it to me over the weekend so I could check it out). Well, I don't know what's wrong with his copy, but after playing the game for about 2 hours, I had already made up my mind to go buy it (right then at 9:00 PM!). Anyway, I picked it up at BestBuy, installed it and ran the patch. It works perfect. SMAC is truly the best game I have ever played. PC Gamer gave it a 98% and I agree.

I am having the same exact problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SMAC over and over again...scanned for viruses with McAffee(sp?)...over and over again...nothing works. And yes...it is my own version of the game. Whatever I do, it will NOT install the patch. It stops on Terran.exe with the same error message. And no, I haven't modified any text files.
PS: Something I've noticed....I was talking to a SMAC-owning friend of mine, and noticed a discrepancy between our copies. The discrepancy:
Normally, the icon that windows has for the SMAC CD is the same as the icon for Terran.exe...at least that seems normal, and it holds true for my friend's copy of the game...and he had no problems installing the 2.0 patch. However...my icon for Terran.exe is NOT the same as the CD icon...it's similar, but with little splotches/red dots (haven't decided which) all over the icon. Normally, I'd just think it a little oddity, but since this is the same file that has given me the problems with installing the patch...I'm thinking it might not be a coincidence. If ANYONE can help me...especially you guys at Firaxis...PLEASE, PLEASE, please tell me. I'd like to actually be able to play with other people.

I had exactly the same problem. But then I realised, hey I have the UK version, and it was a US patch. If it is the same problem, visit [URL]www.firaxis [/URL]

You had the UK version, eh? Well, I notice you live in Denmark. So conceivably, you had bought it in Denmark. And it doesn't suprise me that the UK version was being sold in Denmark. However....I bought it in the US. And the UK version being sold in the US is very, very suprising.
